Molecule / Furniture + Design
1226 Flagman Way
Molecule Design is the best Santa Fe resource for an extensive selection of contemporary and modern furnishings from well known national & international brands. The Molecule Design Store was launched in September 2010 at 1226 Flagman Way in the lively Baca Railyard District. Adriana Siso founded her design store in 2002 in a previous location in Santa Fe, NM. With a background in Fine Arts, Adriana has been an innovator, bringing to the Santa Fe area, original and unique design products by some of the best contemporary industrial design firms in the world.
The Molecule Store operates out of a recycled and renovated shipping container building in Santa Fe, the first of its kind in the city, conceptualized by Siso and constructed by a local builder. 11 High-Cube, 40′ Grade A (recycled) freight ISO containers were used with spray foam insulation between the exterior container wall and the Galvalume sheeting. Frosted polycarbonate panels were used for daylighting and luminosity. An energy efficient cooling and heating system as well as LED reflectors add to energy conservation. A water catchment system collects water for landscape irrigation. Zero wood was used on the project. Container wall cutouts were re-used for building skirts. A local structural engineer oversaw the project and designed the foundation. Containers are stacked to form 2 floors accessed by stairs and a small commercial elevator. Foundation is concrete piers and slab.
Sustainability is an important area of interest and ongoing exploration for Molecule, which offers product lines with a focus on conservation and ecological stewardship. The store keeps an active annual schedule featuring the work of local designers, fabricators and artists, as well as of national and international design firms through multiple events and alliances.
